Offensive Name
Just tried to log on, and noticed a warning that my name goes against the EULA. here is a couple of simple program fixes that may work.
1.As in SWG-Put a filter upon creation of character names.
2.Notify Players either online or via email suggesting a name change before next log-on
ive played the last 4 weeks on the character, sometimes up to 12-16 hours a day..Now my account is banned for 22 hours. This make sense to anyone?

Sorry you are temp-banned, but w.r.t. your complaints:
1.) Too many things to filter, and people are too creative.
2.) Use common sense. If you think something might be offensive to someone, don't use it. That's just being polite. Then we don't need emails and such.

If that's your name, yes it makes complete sense. I bet you'll think twice before making an offensive name.

At least you can change it now. Back in the early days people deleted characters that were locked due to offensive names.
Enjoy the opportunity to change your PvE characters name. Many players will never have that opportunity.

i have had many char names banned due to people being offended, whats with the little kids playing online games nowadays. i dont like how you can be blocked from playing because someone gets "offended", someone saying hello can offend someone. there needs to be a more specific requirement for blocking people

I think offensive names are the least of Anet's problem.
I think there needs to a crackdown on the bots that spam selling gold.
I think that hurts the community more than a simple offensive name.
And if you ask me, no name is offensive to me.
Should we be forced to play with our real names? No, we are able to name our characters how we see fit, because it's our character.
Although I would agree there are some names that go over the edge, I don't think players with offensive names should be banned before a botter.
I can't go a day without seeing "buy gold from here and so", but I rarely see an offensive name.
Why is that?

I tried to create a character a while back named El Gato Negro and it got banned I'm like wtf is offensive about that but unfortunately there's a bunch of crybabies playing games these days and they take the fun out of having a character that you play
the worst thing is it's getting harder to come up with original names now because the community is so big

I see dozens of names each day that can be considered, offensive. Give me a break. If you got banned for Camel Toe, somebody must have their mind in the gutter. Ive seen players with names that you would only see in a XXX movie.... and not the one with Vin Diesel. Just yesterday I saw a guy with a name that stated he had hair on a certain portion of his anatomy. Thats not offensive? Most times people who say something offends them are the same people who are hypocrites. They dont like it when you say it but its ok when they do. Honestly, if your mind is so far in the gutter that you see a name and think of something "adult related" right away, maybe you should seek help, or a video store.

Now for those complaining why people with offensive names get temp bans, while others don't its all a matter of reporting someone with that name
To the OP, you should have know making a name like that was a bad idea, it only took so long for A.net to ban you since it requires someone to report it to them. They don't have GMs running about the game 24/7.
Now the fact of the matter remains people of different ages play is game and not everyone finds offensive character names funny.
Its your own fault, learn from it. Also if anyone sees names or local chat talk they don't like... report it to A.net support.

OP: You walked into this one. Since there is no way to change a character's name, so I'll be a bit curious to see how it plays out in the end, considering that anything offensive is not tolerated.
I'm thinking of reporting ANet for "I'm attacking ------ Cleric!"

A filter would alert you if you had something that would be offensive in another language (like "sega" is apperantly offensive in one language and is blocked if you have the filter on), so the chat filter catches it. Besides, when people get round it, they will get caught when people report them.

Same happened to my friends guild.. "Retards At Large [SPAZ]"
Suddenly the tag got changed to "[Ban]" and my friend had to re-make the guild.
I just hope A.Net puts the same amount of effort into banning bots..

The black cat? What is offensive in one language is a common word in another. I bet "sir" or "lord" means something awful in some languages on earth.

even crazy camel humpers got banned, and it isnt even offensive (unless someone in guild wars actually...nevermind)
If you dont want to lose a character, give it a decent name.

It's not that hard to think up a name that is not offensive. Just use common sense...of course something like Crazy Camel Humpers would get banned.
